Community Problem

Did you know that fruit has to be a certain shape and size to make it onto the shelves at some of our supermarkets? For example: Banana’s that many of us snack on each day have to be 160-220mm long to be accepted…….   this results in many farmers in Queensland having to do this with perfectly good bananas:

A mountain of bananas discarded in just one day!

 Solution

Our VCAL Intermediate students have been busy in Term 3 investigating issues raised by the ABC War on Waste series. As part of their community project task the students have decided to run a free fruit stall sourced from local fruit markets to help raise awareness on fruit waste in Australia.

Come along and try delicious fresh fruit skewers and get involved in games, quizzes and prizes!
