VCE Psychology Unit 1 explores how the brain, nervous system, and psychological processes work together to influence behaviour. Students learn the structure and function of the CNS and PNS, how neurons communicate through electrical and chemical signals, and how neurotransmitters affect thoughts, feelings and actions. The unit also examines brain development and plasticity across the lifespan, including how the brain adapts after injury. Students are introduced to key research methods, brain-imaging techniques, and ethical principles used in psychology while investigating how biological, psychological and social factors interact to shape human behaviour.
