BHI is All In for reconciliation

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all of us to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements.

This year’s NRW theme is All In – a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

We are celebrating NRW by holding our own special event for all staff and students.

    Date: Tuesday 26 May

    Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm

Location: Elgar Cafeteria (Box Hill campus)

Uncle Shane Charles will deliver a Welcome to Country, and we’ll have Faculty showcase displays, including leaf painting, face mask packs made with native plant ingredients, a reconciliation mural, biscuits made with native plant ingredients and much more.

We look forward to seeing you there.

BHI campus upgrades to help you thrive

We want you to learn in the best possible environment. And that’s why we’re creating an environment that is conducive to your success.

We’re pleased to announce our Elgar campus summer upgrades have been completed. Pets on Elgar had a major refresh with more professional space, new vinyl flooring to improve hygiene and safety, and new bath stations for grooming and animal care training.

Our Health teaching spaces were updated with Nursing, Aged Care and Allied Health students having a new bed hoist to practise safe patient handling, while Dental assisting students have a new chair to support practical training.

A purpose-built sandpit environment was created for Trades students to safely practise industry skills. We also upgraded more than 400 computers and laptops, keeping around 2,000kg of e-waste out of landfill.

We are now upgrading the presentation and functionality of circulation spaces within Buildings B1, B2 and B10 at our Elgar campus. These areas experience high foot traffic and represent key transitional spaces used by students, staff, and visitors. We are improving the visual quality and presentation of these spaces to enhance the overall campus environment and student experience. We are also upgrading some of the under-used computer classrooms and turning them into general purpose teaching spaces. With an increased need for flexible, multi-use classrooms, this upgrade will be rolled out across the Elgar, Lilydale, and CBD campuses to ensure consistency and support improved teaching delivery across all sites.

These upgrades are designed to give you the best possible experience at BHI.

    Respect @ TAFE workshops

    Monday, 20 April 2026, 9:44 AM

    Student Comms

Over the coming two weeks, we will be holding a number of workshops on campus for students regarding respectful relationships, as part of this year's Respect @ TAFE campaign.

Run by Sexual Health Victoria, these workshops will cover the following topics:

    • What makes a healthy relationship?
      • What qualities/attributes would you be looking for in a healthy relationship?
      • Do those qualities/attribute change if you are thinking about different types of relationships? Does it change for friendships? Does it change for romantic relationships? Do you have different expectations based for different people in your life (i.e. friends, family, partners, colleagues)?
    • What are scenarios where behaviour is healthy or not?
    • What is consent? What does consent mean to you? Why is consent so important? What are the laws around consent?

If you are interested in attending a workshop, please speak with your teacher or coordinator to ask that they book you in for one of the sessions.

    Summer break campus upgrades

We want you to study in a safe, modern space with the right tools to help you succeed now and in the future. Over summer we made a stack of upgrades across the Elgar campus, and here is a quick look at what is new.

Pets on Elgar had a major refresh for animal studies students.

    • The reception area is now fully renovated with a new counter and fresh paint, giving you a more professional space to meet pet owners.
    • A new gravity fed drainage and filtration system has been installed behind the scenes.
    • New vinyl flooring improves hygiene and safety.
    • Extra cabinetry and new bath stations are in place to support grooming and animal care training.

Health teaching spaces are also been updated.

    • Nursing, Aged Care and Allied Health students will soon have a new bed hoist to practise safe patient handling.
    • Dental assisting students will have a new chair to support practical training.

Trades students will see improvements too.

    • A purpose built sandpit environment is being added so you can safely practise building industry skills.

We have also upgraded more than 400 computers and laptops across the campus. All old equipment is being recycled, keeping around 2,000kg of e-waste out of landfill.

These upgrades are part of our ongoing work to give you the best experience at Box Hill Institute. More improvements are planned for 2026, so keep an eye out for updates.

    Improving City Campus Library Services

    Monday, 15 December 2025, 5:05 PM

    Student Comms

To improve student access to library services, we are now partnering with the City of Melbourne Libraries.

    What's changing?

To deliver a better service for students, a selection of our most popular books will be relocated downstairs to the City of Melbourne’s City Library, situated conveniently in the same building, C1. This move not only expands our footprint but also ensures you have weekend access to a broader range of materials.

    How can I borrow?

Borrowing hardcopy materials at City Campus will transition to the public library system. To take full advantage of this new arrangement, you'll need to secure a membership at the City Library.

It's easy—register at City Library or any City of Melbourne Libraries branch https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/libraries, and you're all set.

You'll also gain access to all the services and collections offered by the public library.

    Additional benefits

Our library study space will remain open for students seeking a quiet learning environment. Our dedicated library team continues to be available for support, both in-person and online.

    Printing services

Please remember, while City of Melbourne Libraries provide printing services, charges apply per sheet. To enjoy free student printing, continue using the Box Hill Institute printers available at the City Campus.

    Tell us what you think

This partnership represents our commitment to enhancing your student experience. We believe it will provide valuable resources and convenience to support your studies. We're eager to hear your feedback as we roll out this new initiative, so let us know your thoughts via Student Web

Thank you for being a part of our learning community.
