This unit explores the interaction between songwriting and the use of live musicians in developing a song. Musical ideas will be introduced that will then be formed and manipulated within a band setting. Key ensemble-leading skills will be developed and implemented, and the process of facilitating ideas and creative input from participants in the ensemble will be explored. While implementing elements of analysis and problem-solving in a collaborative/ensemble setting, collaborative songwriting skills are developed that will allow participants to begin to ‘attune’ to what is happening in the rehearsal process, to bring a song to life.
