Assessment Instructions

You are required to create a work diary over a period of time that describes how you fabricated, assembled and dismantled refrigeration/air-conditioning components. Your diary must include a list of tools, equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE). It is expected that you create at a minimum of 10 work diary entries.

These entries relate to how you have:

1. Prepared for dismantling, assembling and fabrication work.
2. Dismantled and assembled utilities industry apparatus.
3. Fabricated utilities industry components.

Once you have completed your work diary entries, you must show your workplace supervisor your online entries for signoff.

You can complete and submit your Work Diary using Mobas on your mobile device or using StudentWeb on your computer.

Before you start

First download the Work diary template and then fill it in by creating entries for tasks you complete in the workplace, making sure you list all tools, equipment and PPE that may be required.

How to complete this assessment with Mobas

Using your mobile device, go to http://studentweb.bhtafe.edu.au/hosted/mobasapp/.
Log in with your StudentWeb username and password.
Select this unit of competency from the list.
Select the name of this assessment task.

Specifications

You will be required to submit a work diary with entries made up of text and images that show your fabrication, assembly and dismantling of refrigeration/air-conditioning components. Your entries also need to include:

a brief description of the job and the date the task was undertaken
details about your role in the task that includes how you:
1. completed the task or activity according to specific requirements and workplace procedures
2. contributed to the planning and task allocation
3. managed time and prioritised tasks
4. read, interpreted, clarified and followed information on written job instructions, specifications and other documents
5. worked with others and reported on your progress as required
a list of required tools and equipment
details of the relevant workplace health and safety matters including a:
1. description or examples of the workplace procedures that were followed to minimise risk
2. description of the personal protective equipment (PPE) worn
3. list of any hazardous materials featured as part of the job and a related description as to how these materials were handled and stored safely
4. copy of a materials safety data sheet (MSDS) relating to one of the hazardous materials used.

Your assessor will also be looking for evidence of your ability to:

select and use power tools and hand tools appropriate to a task correctly and safely
interpret mechanical drawings/diagrams and instructions correctly
dismantle and assemble an apparatus relevant to the work being done
fabricate a relevant component.
