23 April 2020 Coronavirus Update

There have been no reported coronavirus (COVID-19) cases at Box Hill Institute campuses as at 2.30pm, Thursday 23 April 2020.

Term 2 has commenced and remote learning has been established for courses. If you have any questions about your classes, please contact your teacher or coordinator.

Skills & Jobs Centres

Box Hill Institute has three Skills & Jobs Centres across Melbourne to assist people looking to start training, employees wanting to re-skill and employers looking at meeting workforce needs. The Centres can support you prior to commencing study, whilst you are studying and post study to assist with the transition from education to employment.

Visit a Skills and Jobs Centre if you are or are likely to be:

·         Looking for a career change or careers advice

·         Seeking training advice or support

·         Needing assistance with skills recognition

·         An out of trade apprentice or trainee

·         An employer looking to upskill your workforce, assistance with employment vacancies or need an apprentice/trainee

Campus Operations

The City, Whitehorse, Lilydale and Nelson campuses and libraries are closed. The Lilydale Lakeside Childcare Centre and John Street (AMEP) remain open.

The Elgar campus remains open with limited access to the following buildings:

·         E3 – Student Hub (Library and Student Life, Monday-Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm). Access at rear of E4

·         E4 – Registrar & Facilities, Student Administration (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)

 

Buildings E1, E2, E5, E7, E8 and E9 are closed.

Services for Students

The Elgar café is closed. Vending machines are available for staff and students who are on campus.

The Enrolment Hub is closed. Students should call (03) 9286 9222 for assistance with enrolment.

International Students

Support for international students during the COVID-19 pandemic includes:

·         National

o   Access to Superannuation if you have been working for more 12 months and your employer has been making contributions

o   Exemptions for the 40 hours/fortnight work limit if the employment is with a major supermarket or in the aged care sector (to 1 May 2020)

·         State

o   Eligible for the Working for Victoria initiative

o   Waiver of any costs (hospitalisation, etc) directly associated with coronavirus under the COVID-19 Health Costs Waiver Program

o   Government has aligned emergency and food relief services in the community and this is available to international students.  Information can be found on the Study Melbourne website
