Phased Return to Campus Update #1

On Monday 11 May 2020, Box Hill Institute commenced a phased return to campus for students. Some students were invited to return to campus to undertake practical components of their course, but before being admitted on campus, they underwent a daily screening and signed a student declaration to ensure the health and safety of all students on campus.

The first day of a phased return to campus went well with students adhering to strict social distancing and taking advantage of hand sanitiser and reminders to wash hands frequently and wipe done any equipment they are using.

Students with underlying health conditions or in high risk categories that make them vulnerable were not asked to return to campus, in line with the advice provided by the Department of Health and Human Services - COVID 19 Information.

Ongoing Classes

Students must adhere to social distancing at all times in and outside the classroom. Once class has finished, students are required to leave campus. If a student is found to be in breach of the social distancing requirements, they may be asked to leave campus and return at an advised date.

Today, the Premier of Victoria announced a staged return to schools from remote and flexible learning from Tuesday 26 May 2020, announcing that all students will attend school as normal from Tuesday 9 June 2020. Box Hill Institute will have further announcements to make on its plans to invite all students to return to campus.

The App

The Department of Health’s COVIDSafe app is available to help find close contacts of COVID-19 cases. The COVIDSafe app speeds up the manual process of finding people who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. This means you’ll be contacted more quickly if you are at risk and reduces the chances of you passing on the virus to your family, friends and other people in the community. The app offers a simple and practical way for each of us to help prevent further outbreaks. You can read more about it here.

Public Transport

Public Transport Victoria has information on its website about the measures it is taking to keep passengers safe, including increased cleaning and cashless transactions. It also outlines measures passengers can take including social distancing.

Feedback

While we are working through this phased transition to campus, we are encouraging students to share feedback with us about our processes and procedures on campus in response to COVID-19.

Students can send feedback to customerrelations@boxhill.edu.au. Collecting this feedback will enable our project team to ensure that our processes are working effectively in our goal to keep you safe.
