How to Prevent Feeling Faint

Have you ever experienced feeling faint?

Fainting is occurs when you lose consciousness or pass out for a short time. People can incur serious injury from fainting so it’s important to know what you can do to avoid feeling faint.

Fainting normally occurs when the blood flow to your brain suddenly drops. The feeling that you’re going to faint, usually comes on suddenly and symptoms may include clammy skin, dizziness, sweating, lightheadedness, nausea or changes to your vision.

The best way to avoid fainting is to eat regular meals and avoid skipping meals. If you feel hungry between meals, eat a healthy snack. You also need to make sure that you drink enough water every day.

Other way to avoid fainting is to move your legs if you need to stand in one place for a long time. If you can, try pacing or shaking your legs out. Try not to exert yourself in hot weather and, if you suffer anxiety, find a coping strategy that works for you. If you have sudden anxiety and feel like you might faint, take deep breaths and count slowly to 10 to try to calm yourself.

If you feel like you’re going to faint, some of the following steps may prevent you from losing consciousness:

·         Lie down with your legs in the air

·         Sit down and put your head between your knees

·         Make a tight fist and tense your arms to help raise your blood pressure

·         Cross your legs or press them together tightly to raise your blood pressure

·         Eat something

·         Slowly sip some water

·         Take slow, deep breaths

If you see someone who looks as if they’re about to faint, have them follow these tips. If you can, bring them food or water and get them to sit or lie down. You can also move objects away from them in case they do faint.

If someone near you faints, be sure to keep them lying on their back, check their breathing and make sure they’re not injured.
