Library Accessibility Information

Library accessibility for students and staff with disabilities

Libraries are a safe space on campus. Staff are approachable and will take the time for those who need assistance finding information and exploring online resources. Help is available with using computers or submitting assignments.

All Campuses have the following:

Staff

• Help students and staff find resources, including online
• Instruct students and staff in the use of computers and other library equipment
• Able to assist customers in emergencies

Electronic resources

• A large collection of eBooks. Students with visual impairment can resize texts or listen aloud to text
• Our online video collection, ClickView, has closed captions in multiple languages, and transcriptions
• The Disability LibGuide (Library Guide) lists librarian-selected resources including useful library books and websites

Hardcopy resources

• Most DVDs have closed captions
• Picture books and English as an Additional Language (EAL & AMEP) readers

Computers

• Explore the Read&Write program on our library computers. Users can listen to documents being read aloud, simplify websites, use screen masking and translator tools

Other

• Visible and audible fire alarms
• Photocopiers with tools such as colour reversal and vibration intensity settings
• Unfortunately, some books are located above shoulder height in all libraries

Accessibility by Campus

Elgar

• Large well spread out study area allowing students to move around easily
• Library co-located with Student Life Accessibility Liaison Service
• Special bright tiles in flooring to help sight impaired students navigating from the entrance to Student Life
• A table with adjustable height suitable for people in wheelchairs and people who prefer to stand
• Tight shelving in ‘Book room’ may impede students using wheelchairs or other mobility aids, please see Library staff for assistance
• Automatic doors & elevator access
• Accessible toilet directly outside library

Nelson

• Ground floor location
• Tight shelving may impede mobility impaired students, please see Library staff for assistance
• Accessible toilet on library floor

CAE/CITY

• Accessible toilet on library floor
• Elevator access to second floor and 200m walk
• Tight shelving may impede mobility impaired students, please see Library staff for assistance

Lilydale

• Large well spread out library allowing students to move around easily
• A table with adjustable height suitable for people in wheelchairs and people who prefer to stand
• Accessible toilet nearby
• Elevator access to library floor
